Delete your data

Request deletion of specific data from your WhatScent account — without deleting the account itself.

This page explains how to delete specific data on WhatScent — the scent identity app published by WhatScent — while keeping your account. You can remove most content instantly inside the app, or request deletion here if you no longer have the app installed. To delete your entire account instead, visit our Delete account page.

Delete data instantly in the app

Most content can be removed yourself, right away — no request needed.

  1. 1Open the WhatScent app and go to the section that holds the data (e.g. Journal, Stories, Library, your profile).
  2. 2Open the item you want to remove (a journal entry, story, comment, shelf, or library/wishlist item).
  3. 3Tap the more (⋯) menu on that item.
  4. 4Choose “Delete” or “Remove” and confirm.
  5. 5The item is removed immediately.

Tip: you can download a copy of your data first from Settings → Account → Download my data.

Request data deletion from the web

No longer have the app, or want us to remove specific data for you? Choose what to delete below. For your security, we verify that the request comes from the account owner before anything is deleted — and your account stays active.

By submitting, you confirm you are the owner of this account. Your account will remain active — only the selected data is deleted.

What is deleted and what is kept

We follow data-minimization and GDPR principles.

Deleted on request

We permanently remove the specific data you select, for example:

  • The journal entries, stories, comments, shelves or library items you choose
  • The associated photos and videos you uploaded for those items
  • Your search history and, if requested, your AI conversations and personalization data

Kept

Because you're keeping your account, the following stay in place unless you ask otherwise:

  • Your account, profile, login and settings
  • Data you did not select for deletion

Aggregate community data (e.g. perfume rating averages) may retain an anonymized contribution that can no longer be linked to you.

Timing & retention periods

  • Deleting content yourself in the app is immediate.
  • Web requests are completed within 30 days of verification (usually much sooner).
  • Residual copies in encrypted backups are purged on our normal rotation, within 90 days.
  • We may retain limited records where required by law, for no longer than legally necessary.
